Puppy is Coming!

Frankly I don’t think that Sarah has quite yet realized what she has let me do but, regardless, in 4 short weeks we will be the proud new recipients of a new canine housemate.

There she is, our mini golden doodle! I really wish that there was a less embarrassing name for this breed, though at least we’re not getting a Shih-T-Poo (pronounced Shit-Poo). This may or may not be the exact dog that we’re getting - frankly it’s hard to tell at 2.5 weeks. There are 8 siblings in the litter and we’re getting one of the 7 girls, but frankly they all look like little piglets at this point so it’s hard to tell them apart.

This is the mother - she’s a Golden Retriever. If you’re wondering why the pictures are all red, it’s because I didn’t want to use a flash and they’re keeping warm under a red heat lamp.

This is the father, a miniature poodle. I personally find the mental image of the mechanics of that particular courtship to be somewhat comical, to say the least.

This enormous Bernese Mountain Dog (you can’t tell in this picture, but it’s probably bigger than Sarah) is not related to our dogs in any way, but it was so adorable that I needed to take its picture. It was quite a menagerie at the farm where we went to meet the puppies - there were two quarter horses, a thoroughbred, three Chihuahuas, two poodles, a golden doodle and four pregnant miniature horses, not to mention at least half a dozen barn cats and a husband.

More pictures soon - we’ll go see them in a couple of weeks again, just to get a better idea how they are growing up. Since they are a mixed breed, there is some variety in the breed based on what traits they take from each parent.
